Book Signing With Julie Longacre

The Port Hood Resource Centre will be hosting a book signing event for our friend, neighbour and long time supporter of the Resource Centre and Capsite, Julie Longacre. Come meet Julie , the author of “The Place I Keep – A Collection of Poems and Pictures”, and author of “The Dirty Old Ladies Cookbook”. In addition Julie is also well known as an award winning artist and is recognized for her achievements in art, corporate, public and private collectors. Her love of painting, music and writing showcases her as an inspirational and creative artist.
Julie Longacre was born in Berks County, Pennsylvania. She earned her bachelor of fine arts degree from Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas in 1965. She fell in love with the Canadian landscape early on when she and her family spent summers in Seeleys Bay, Ontario. In 1991 she visited Cape Breton for the first time and knew she never wanted to leave. Julie purchased a home in Port Hood in 1999, and established her Harbourview Studio the following year.

“The Place I Keep – A Collection of Poems and Pictures” takes you into the mind and heart of Julie while offering thoughts on her happiness, her pains, and her dreams through a collection of her personal heartwarming poems and musings. The inspirational and beautiful sketches are set throughout the book and gives the reader an opportunity to reflect on the poems while peeking into the simple beauties of life.

“The Dirty Old Ladies’ Cookbook,” is much like the author herself – funny, a bit eccentric, reminiscent, full of surprises and incredibly joyful. Julie had several reasons for writing this unique book firstly was to collect all her favourite recipes and put them in one place and the another reason was to save her memories. It is a collection of stories about food and people who love to eat. The format of the book is unique in the way it is arranged, mating recipes with love stories. With a mix of recipes, artwork, photographs, original poems, memories and commentaries on topics such as how to cope with a gravy spot on the front of your blouse and even a letter from the author to Benjamin Franklin, the book is as fun and charming to read as it is instructive.

This is a great opportunity to come chat, socialize and get your signed copies of Julie Longacre’s books. Everyone is invited to this event taking place on July 31st, 2010 from 12:00 pm -3:00 pm at 214 Main Street (Main Level), Port Hood. Refreshments will be served
